About Ayush Ranka Photography

Ayush Ranka is an independent photographer based out of Bangalore, India.

Ayush loves accepting challenging projects and his passion for taking photographs knows no bounds. He is equally comfortable shooting out on the streets for publications where situations can change dramatically from one minute to the next, or for corporate houses who want to showcase their infrastructure and products, etc, where his technical abilities of lighting control come to the forefront. He has a strong sense of composition and design as is evident from his work and is able to think out of the box.

He understands that scenarios change dynamically on the field and his ability to keep cool and focus on the job at hand helps him overcome obstacles that might otherwise hinder in getting a great result.

In his personal work too, Ayush makes pieces of art that are inspired purely by the elements of time, composition, colour and light, and abandons deeper meaning in his pictures thereby opening up a space and inviting the viewer to interact with the frame rather than just react to it.

He was selected as one of the top ten short-listed photographers of the Redux Scholarship for the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop, Manali, India, 2009. He successfully completed the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop held in Manali in Aug 2009, under internationally acclaimed photographer Ron Haviv, the series which have been featured on the official Foundry Website.

His clients include New York Times, Volvo, UVEX (Germany), Azim Premji Foundation, GQ (India), Financial Times Magazine, Harvard Business Review, Architectural Digest and Femina Magazine. His work has also appeared on webspaces such as Photojournale, Kafila and The Social Documentary Network. Apart from doing editorial and work of a photojournalistic nature, Ayush also takes up commercial assignments.

Recommendations Ayush has recieved from people he has worked with:

"Ayush Ranka brings out "perspective" in his work. He does this with dogged consistency. An exceptional photographer, his strength lies in composing frames and in being able to use light and angles to tell a story like an artist would. His attitude and stubbornness while working on images and “on-site” may seem abrasive and/or eccentric…but when one sees the final series, the rationale for the madness in the method is evident. If you expect a high-quality end-product you should choose to work with him."

"Ayush Ranka has been associated with Femina editorial since eight or nine years, in Bangalore, and has done many assignments for us. We have used his expertise in getting us not only qualitative images of people from all professions but also offbeat classical ones, like his travel images done on Bylekuppe, or fashion pictures on designers Julie Kagtie and Anjali Sharma's home and studio. He has also done fashion pictures for our monthly edition of Femina Buyology in the South, and assignments for our national pages on various personalities, inkeeping with the storyline and brief. We find him punctual, creative and sound in his work, and find his overall process of delivery and followup efficient and to the mark. We also love the element of fun, quirkiness and finish in all the images that he finally delivers, on time, every time. We wish him the very best in all his future endeavours!"
